School now will be in session on both February 20 and March 31, 2017, to make up for recent school closures due to snow. March 31 will serve as the last day of the 3rd 9-week grading period.

Free Tax Prep for Households Making Less Than $55,000

Cville Tax Aid 2017Free tax preparation assistance for the 2016 tax season will be available January 23 – April 18, 2017, through Cville Tax Aid. To receive free tax preparation assistance at one of the 11 coalition sites in Charlottesville, Albemarle, and surrounding counties, taxpayers must have household income of less than $55,000 in 2016. Mark Your Calendar: Community Meeting on Jan. 17

I’d like to invite you to a community meeting on Tuesday evening, January 17, at Monticello High School to talk about the future of Albemarle County’s high schools.

We will provide a brief overview of state-mandated graduation requirement changes on the horizon, as well as our designs. In addition, we will host a viewing of the film, Most Likely to Succeed. During an intermission of the film, we will have brief information sessions in the theater foyer as well as opportunities for you to share your ideas. We want you to be a part of this important ongoing conversation, one that will lead to changes in the high school experiences of all students, beginning with those who will be freshmen in 2018. Digital PromiseThe Digital Promise filmMAKER™ Challenge invites middle and high school students to reinvent an everyday product to make it more sustainable, accessible or beautiful and create a documentary video that tells the story of the process.

Students are invited to submit their videos to Digital Promise by March 24, 2017, to be considered for an invitation to present their film and designs at the Bay Area Maker Faire in May 2017 or the World Maker Faire in New York in October 2017. Learn more »
