NEA Foundation Grant Opportunities – Next Deadline: June 1

The NEA FoundationThe National Education Association (NEA) Foundation offers two grant opportunities for educators: Student Achievement Grants and Learning & Leadership Grants. Three grant deadlines are established annually: February 1, June 1, and October 15. Two levels of funding are available: $2,000 and $5,000. GenCyber Beginner Camp for Secondary School Teachers – Apply by April 25

GenCyber LogoVirginia Tech will hold their fourth annual GenCyber Beginner Camp for Secondary School Teachers on June 17-21, 2018. GenCyber camp will train secondary school teachers in the principles of good cybersecurity practices and the science behind those practices so that they may both teach their students effective practices as well as motivate these students to study more cybersecurity in more detail as they move into their chosen disciplines in colleges and universities. Important Notice: Change in Employee Health Club Deductions

Over the years, we have been asked by employees and by various health clubs to offer payroll deduction for monthly membership fees. While the County of Albemarle encourages employees to participate in wellness programs, it has been limited in its ability to offer payroll deduction of membership fees to multiple health clubs because it is/was a manual process. By standardizing this process and by utilizing the Greenshades Employee Self-Serve portal, the County will automate this process and will expand the offering of payroll deduction to additional health clubs who meet certain membership requirements. World Peace Game Master Class: Limited Seats Available

World Peace Game FoundationOnly a few openings remain for Albemarle County teachers wishing to participate in a World Peace Game Master Class in Charlottesville from June 18-22. Using John Hunter’s World Peace Game as an inspiring and challenging analogy, master class participants observe Hunter facilitating the game live with students each morning. Afternoon sessions focus on introducing teachers to the guiding philosophy and pedagogical principles that underlie the game, essential attributes necessary to facilitate the game, and designing learning that is inspired by the principles and spirit of the game.
