Responsive Classroom & Developmental Designs Summer Institutes: Dates & Registration

ACPS PD

Important note: As we move into the 2021-22 school year, please know that there will not be a requirement for teachers to complete 6 hours of professional learning during the summer. However, we will be offering an array of optional learning opportunities that we will share through the Compass and our ACPS Professional Development web page.

We are excited to announce the summer dates for Responsive Classroom (RC) and Developmental Designs (DD) Summer Institutes! Both of these institutes support teachers in better understanding the social and emotional learning needs of their students and giving them the tools and understanding they need to create supportive learning environments for all students. Virginia’s Teacher of the Year Could Well Come From Albemarle County

VDOE Teacher of the Year 2022

Each year, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) selects one teacher as its teacher of the year for the Commonwealth. The award is named for Mary V. Bicouvaris, who began her 26-year teaching career in Hampton and, in 1989, was named the National Teacher of the Year.

Based on the incredible work of our teachers every year and most especially this year, the Teacher of the Year Program is an excellent opportunity to recognize the impact our teachers are making in the lives of our students, families and colleagues. All teachers are invited to apply to represent our school division in this statewide program. Any teacher can self-nominate or nominate a colleague for consideration as Teacher of the Year.

We want to begin the process locally by asking interested teachers to complete our 2022 Teacher of the Year Interest Form by Friday, May 7. Continue reading

New Translation Solution Coming to ACPS Website on May 3

Weglot Logo

For the past few years, ACPS has used Google Translate’s website translator widget to provide free and automatic translation of our website content. However, Google announced in 2019 that they would no longer support their website translator widget. Eventually the tool will cease to work, likely without warning.

In order to ensure that our web content is accessible to users who prefer to read text in a language other than English, ACPS has partnered with a website translation service called Weglot (pronounced Wē-glŏt). Beginning Monday, May 3, Weglot will seamlessly integrate with our website to offer translation options. Continue reading

As you do with phishing emails, please continue to use a “cautious lens” if you receive such a call. Before giving any personally identifiable information or providing payment for anything, please contact the entity that the caller is claiming to be to verify the request. As a reminder: No reputable organization will contact you asking for password or account information without you initiating the contact.

If you have questions, please reach out to the Service Desk during normal business hours at 434-975-9444.
