Troops to Teachers Project Accepting Applications – Deadline: May 1

National Humanities Center

The National Humanities Center has received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities for their project, Troops to Teachers: Helping Communities and Classrooms Understand the Military Experience. This five-day Institute will recruit and support up to 30 current K-12 educators who are also veterans in a project-based initiative to help classrooms and communities better understand the military family experience. Interested educators should apply by May 1, 2019.

The Institute, which will be held June 17-21, 2019, will use literature to address the key themes of the military experience, and the cohort will be able to apply their personal experience to conceive and lead meaningful school- and community-based projects around these themes.

The National Humanities Center seeks motivated educators who will transfer this training into an actionable community project that introduces these same techniques to members of their school community. The cohort will reconvene for a one-day showcase presentation of these projects at the Center in spring 2020.
