Service Academy Day 2015 Will Be Held March 28
Senator Mark Warner invites high school and middle school students, their parents, and guidance counselors to Academy Day 2015 on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Attendees will be provided a comprehensive overview of the United States service academies and their admission process. In addition, students will be able to meet with officials from all five service academies as well as representatives from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB), ROTC programs, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Military Institute. 30 Grants in 30 Days Is Live – Apply by April 3!
Keep Virginia Beautiful is accepting applications for their 2015 30 Grants in 30 Days program through April 3! The program is designed to help communities, schools, parks, neighborhoods, and civic groups battle Virginia’s environmental issues on the front lines. These grants are categorized in 3 areas: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Beautification & Community Greening. Thirty grants of $500 to $1,000 will be awarded to 30 geographically diverse areas around the Commonwealth. These grants will be awarded for 30 consecutive days starting on Earth Day, April 22, 2015. Save the Date: Annual We Notice Employee Recognition and Service Celebration – April 23
The Albemarle County Student Advisory Council, in partnership with Albemarle County Public Schools, has kicked off the annual We Notice Program! Students, parents, and employees are invited to recognize a teacher or staff member whose work should be celebrated. Any ACPS employee (teacher, office associate, building services team member, teaching assistant, cafeteria worker, school nurse, bus driver) is eligible for recognition, but nominations must be received by March 28. Situational Awareness for Everyone (SAFE) Event on March 30
In light of tragic events in our community, many leaders, stakeholders and advocates came together, agreeing that we needed additional education regarding situational awareness, personal safety and domestic violence. After seeing the success of the AWARE (Always Watch and Recognize (your) Environment) event for students at Monticello High School, we wanted to expand on the topic and open up the conversation to everyone in our community. The next event focused on safety is called SAFE, Situational Awareness for Everyone. Last Day of School & Office Closures Due to Inclement Weather
The last day of the 2014-15 school year for students will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The last work day for teachers will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015. View an update on where we stand with inclement weather make-up days.
