ALL Employees: Complete the 2017-18 Online Annual Training (OATs) by Nov. 3

Required Annual TrainingIt’s time once again for Albemarle County’s Online Annual Training (OATs), your yearly review of policies, procedures, and other important information for all Albemarle County Public Schools employees. Please complete this required training by Friday, November 3, 2017.

It takes about 20 minutes to complete the 3-step process: (1) View the 2017-18 OATs presentation; (2) successfully complete a short online quiz; and (3) certify that you have completed the training.

Two New NCTM Grants With November Deadlines

NCTMThe National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) has announced two NEW! grant opportunities with November deadlines:

Fostering Support of Mathematics Learning in Multilingual Classrooms | Deadline: Nov. 30
A grant of up to $4,000 will be awarded to a PreK-12 school for in-service to increase understanding and expertise in fostering support of multi-language development when teaching mathematics.

Powerful Accessibility Tool Now Available for All Students & Educators

Co:Writer UniversalAll ACPS educators and students now have access to a powerful accessibility tool called Co:Writer, which is designed to help learners of all ages have word prediction to support all aspects of the curriculum. Co:Writer is both a Chrome internet browser extension and desktop app that provides on-demand word prediction as well as audio representation of those words. Strong Men & Women in Virginia History 2018The Library of Virginia, in collaboration with Dominion Energy, invites high schools students in Virginia to honor outstanding African Americans by participating in the 2018 Strong Men & Women in Virginia History student writing contest. Students should submit their 400-word essay online by midnight on Friday, November 10, 2017, for a chance to win an Apple MacBook Air and $1,000 for their school. 14th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day – Oct. 28

National Prescription Drug Take Back DayThe Albemarle County Police Department, in partnership with Martha Jefferson Hospital, is hosting National Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, October 28. The event, which aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing expired, unwanted or unused medication, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Martha Jefferson Hospital (back side), located at 500 Martha Jefferson Drive in Charlottesville. This service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.

Making Connections 2017: Registration Now Open!

Making Connections 2017Registration for Making Connections 2017 now open! The Making Connections for Equity and Access professional development day will take place Monday, November 6, at multiple school sites throughout the division. Teachers should sign up for one morning session from 8:30 to 11:30 and one afternoon session from 12:30 to 3:30. Lunch will be provided and available for teachers at their morning session. NEA Foundation Grants – Next Deadline: February 1

The NEA FoundationThe National Education Association (NEA) Foundation offers two grant opportunities for educators: Student Achievement Grants and Learning & Leadership Grants. Three grant deadlines are established annually: February 1, June 1, and October 15. Two levels of funding are available: $2,000 and $5,000.
