5th Annual Albemarle County Coat Drive: There’s Still Time to Contribute!
Albemarle County’s last four coat drives have resulted in more than 2,200 coats, jackets, and assorted winter clothing items going to community members in need. This year’s drive opened in November and will continue accepting donations through the end of February. As of last week, we were only 57 coats short of 2,500 donations in five years! Continue reading
Second Semester PD Offerings
As second semester gets underway, professional opportunities have been updated on the ACPS Professional Development site.
Highlights of the winter/spring offerings include Responsive Classroom sessions on Morning Meeting and Self Discipline; a variety of sessions in the “Design, Making, and Engineering” series; the new “Managing Your Digital World as an Educator” series; Google Certification; and CPR certification.

New Learning Management System for ACPS
Albemarle County Public Schools has selected a new Learning Management System to serve our communities of learners. This selection came after a thorough review process that included a large group of educators. “Virginia Loves Teachers” License Plate – Support the Effort by Jan. 31
Driving through Virginia, one can see over 200 different personalized license designs, recognizing everything from sports teams to special interests. Delegate John McGuire, who represents the 56th House District, which includes Louisa and parts of Goochland, Henrico and Spotsylvania counties, has partnered with Louisa County Public Schools to recognize teachers statewide.
Email Storage Expansion for All & Productivity PD for ACPS Teachers
ACPS teachers, office associates, and other support staff engage in a high volume of email correspondence with families, colleagues, and school administrators. Currently, ACPS employees have access to 250MB of email storage through Outlook Exchange, the email application provided by Albemarle County Public Schools. In an effort to further support teachers and all employees, the Department of Learning Engineering, Accessibility and Design (LEAD) will adjust the storage limit of all email accounts to 2G. Doing so will expand email storage by 800%. This change will take effect on February 1.
In addition, the Learning Technology team will host a series of professional learning opportunities for ACPS teachers in February titled, Tips for Managing Your Digital World as an Educator. Continue reading

Shenandoah Region Librarian of the Year – Deadline: Jan. 31
The Shenandoah Region of the Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) is seeking applications for the region’s Librarian of the Year Award. If you know an outstanding librarian, please consider offering a letter of support and encourage him or her to apply for the award. The deadline for applications is January 31, and all applicants must be VAASL members.
Time and Attendance System Implementation Update
As you are aware, our intent was to begin the rollout of the new time and attendance system in March. As we have worked toward that goal, it has become evident that we need more time to allow for sufficient system testing, training, and communication. As such, we have decided to delay the implementation.
