Video Spotlight: School Safety Info Session

Last Wednesday evening, November 30, our Community Engagement team hosted an online forum on school safety. Among the experts who spoke were Sally Hudson, who represents Albemarle in the Virginia House of Delegates, and our state senator, Creigh Deeds. They were joined by professors and researchers from the University of Virginia, a representative from the Albemarle County Police Department, and several professionals from our Student Services program. In addition to the current state of safety in our schools and our prevention and protective measures, conversations addressed how our school division is meeting the social and emotional needs of students.

We’ve had an amazing response to our introduction of Stay Interviews! Thank you to everyone who has signed up to participate! We have received far more requests for individual sessions than expected, so to accommodate the demand, we’ve expanded the scheduling window, now Monday, December 5 – Thursday, December 15, and we’ve added more after-school sessions. We also converted some focus groups into individual sessions.

As we mentioned in our Nov. 29 Compass post, stay interviews provide an opportunity for employees to communicate the best parts of their job and share ideas about how the division can do better. Albemarle County Public Schools is exploring the possibility of creating a Reading Specialist Cohort to support current employees in obtaining a Reading Specialist License. We will be hosting a virtual information session on Thursday, December 8, at 4:30 p.m. for anyone who is interested in learning more about this opportunity.
