Summer Fine Arts Academy Now Accepting Registrations

Fine Arts LogoACPS is launching its first Fine Arts Academy this summer from July 21-25! Students currently in grades 6-11 (rising 7th – 12th graders for 2014-15) can choose to spend their week focused on art, creative writing, dance, drama, choir, or jazz band. The registration fee is $100 for all sessions that run from 9 a.m. to noon. Art students have the option of adding three hours to their class for an additional $50. 2014 ACTION! High School Director Competition

VA Film FestivalThe Virginia Film Festival (VFF) encourages students to take their passion for filmmaking and create an entry for ACTION!, the VFF’s High School Director Competition. The 2014 ACTION! Competition is open to rising 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are current residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. One Grand Prize winner will receive a check for $1,000, and two runners-up will each receive a check for $500. Arts, Culture & Design in Schools Grants – Apply by April 30

Art ProgramsThinking ahead to next year? Each Arts, Culture & Design in Schools Grant from Target is $2,000. Grant applications will be accepted through 1 p.m. EDT on April 30. Apply now!

Target funds in-school arts programs that enhance students’ classroom curricula by bringing the arts and cultural experiences to schools, such as in-school performances, artist-in-residency programs, and workshops in schools. Programs must take place between September 2014 and August 2015.

First Student Film Festival Coming This Spring!

Student Film FestAlbemarle County Public Schools will present a showcase of our finest student films from 6th to 12th grade in our first ACPS Student Film Festival on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at the Monticello High School auditorium. Students can submit films in narrative, documentary, foreign language, or experimental genres through the ACPS Student Film Festival website.
