An Open Letter from County Executive Jeff Richardson Addressing the Upcoming Weekend of August 10-12
Dear Members of the Albemarle County Community,
We are less than a month away from the somber anniversaries of the violence that took place in Charlottesville and Albemarle County last August.
While the region anticipates individuals gathering in and around Charlottesville, as well as several community groups to hold events throughout the weekend of August 10-12, the safety and well-being of our community is paramount.
We are actively participating in regional public safety planning ahead of the weekend, and have been regularly meeting with local and state public safety and emergency management personnel. We also have a representative on hand at the various community briefings that are underway around the city throughout the month of July.
At this time, we know that a regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be activated for August 10-12 and public safety representatives from Charlottesville, Albemarle County, University of Virginia Police and Virginia State Police will be working together to coordinate safety and emergency management efforts.
A website has been launched by the City of Charlottesville that contains important information and resources so that everyone can make informed decisions regarding the anniversary weekend. The website can be found at www.charlottesville.org/resilientcville. You can also access the website and information through the #RESILIENTCVILLE link at the top of our website homepage, www.albemarle.org.
Again, the safety and well-being of the citizens and property of Albemarle County remains our focus. We will continue to keep residents and businesses informed as we also support the regional public safety efforts.
Sincerely,
Jeff Richardson
Albemarle County Executive
