Superintendent Presents Draft Funding Request of $257 Million for 2023-24 School Year
Last Thursday evening, Superintendent Haas presented a needs-based and balanced funding request for the 2023-24 school year to the Albemarle County School Board. The request, totaling $257.3 million, includes an increase over the current adopted budget of nearly $10.9 million. The increase is supported by anticipated revenues that include an 8.8% increase in local funding and a 6.9% increase in state funding.

The following message was issued from Nelsie Birch, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Albemarle County, on Friday, February 3, 2023:
On Wednesday, we launched the Fraud, Waste & Abuse Reporting System, an anonymous incident reporting website. Albemarle County’s mission is to enhance the well-being and quality of life for all community members through the provision of the highest level of public service consistent with the prudent use of public funds.
Residents, taxpayers, and employees may report concerns regarding fraud, waste, or abuse in Albemarle County Government or Albemarle County Public Schools using this confidential and secure website or via telephone at 434-243-7944. Continue reading
School Board Approves Funding Request
At its business meeting on March 10, the Albemarle County School Board unanimously approved its 2022-23 funding request, which includes a 6% salary increase for employees effective July 1. This would be in addition to the 4% increase that took effect on February 26.
School board chair Graham Paige and vice-chair Katrina Callsen will present the funding request to the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors on Monday, March 14, at 3 p.m. Continue reading

As one of its objectives, Goal 3 of the school division’s new strategic plan, Learning for All, focuses on developing sustainable and modern facilities, infrastructure and equipment as a means to transform learning experiences and opportunities for students. Strategies affiliated with this goal include developing long-range plans to address overcrowding, partnering with local government on strategies to fund capital projects, and developing an equitable and sustainable process for guiding renovations and improvements.
In support of this goal, the Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee (LRPAC) requests your input on the priorities that should guide their selection of facility improvement projects. Continue reading
School Board Adopts More Robust Budget for the New School Year
At its May 13 meeting, the Albemarle County School Board adopted an operating budget for the 2021-22 school year of $211.2 million, an increase of 9% over the current year. The new fiscal year begins on July 1. The adopted budget represents an increase from the School Board’s Funding Request of $209.9 million presented in March.
