Due to constrained budget resources, there weren’t sufficient funds to support meaningful, full-year increases in keeping with our market strategy. Required Training for School Staff Who Interpret/Translate
The ESOL Office is excited to offer a special one-hour training to comply with state and federal guidelines to ACPS employees who wish to support ESOL families through occasional interpretation and/or translation during the school day. Interested staff members should contact Elaine Cecelski-Ayala, Family Engagement Liason, about scheduling and receiving payment for the training (ececelski@k12albemarle.org or 434-973-7921 | 434-465-0776).

Free Workshop: Customer Service in Action – August 17
You’re invited! The Virginia Workforce Center, in cooperation with Virginia Cooperative Extension, is offering a FREE workshop entitled “Customer Service in Action,” on Monday, August 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will define the components of quality customer service; understand the importance of effectively communicating with customers; explore the impact of positive and negative communication practices on customer interactions; and identify personal actions that will improve delivery of on-the-job customer service. New Competencies for Classified Employees
Since February, a committee composed of classified employees from the school division and local government has been working to review and revise the performance competency and appraisal model for classified staff. As a result of their analysis, including employee feedback, new competencies used to recruit, hire, train and evaluate classified employees have been established. You are invited to review the proposed new classified employee competencies and offer your feedback through a short survey. Please respond by Wednesday, May 13.
The competency review group has been receiving classified employee feedback since March through meetings, focus groups, and a survey. As we sought to organize the many comments and suggestions, we remained focused on our primary goals: to ensure alignment with the mission, vision and values of both divisions, and to create a new, streamlined set of competencies that makes it easier for classified employees to answer the “how do they relate to my actual job?” question. Save the Date: Annual We Notice Employee Recognition and Service Celebration – April 23
The Albemarle County Student Advisory Council, in partnership with Albemarle County Public Schools, has kicked off the annual We Notice Program! Students, parents, and employees are invited to recognize a teacher or staff member whose work should be celebrated. Any ACPS employee (teacher, office associate, building services team member, teaching assistant, cafeteria worker, school nurse, bus driver) is eligible for recognition, but nominations must be received by March 28. Last Day of School & Office Closures Due to Inclement Weather
The last day of the 2014-15 school year for students will be Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The last work day for teachers will be Wednesday, June 10, 2015. View an update on where we stand with inclement weather make-up days.
As a reminder, General Government classified staff and School Division classified staff are no longer treated the same in the case of closures due to inclement weather. Continue reading
