At their meeting on November 10, the Albemarle County School Board granted 12-month employees an additional half-day of annual leave on Wednesday, November 23. In alignment with the state’s Thanksgiving holiday schedule, school division offices will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, November 23. Happy Thanksgiving!

Attention 12-month employees! In preparation for inclement weather season, you should be aware of the following:
For each weather event that affects the school schedule, the superintendent will provide guidance to 12-month employees regarding expectations for reporting to work. Minimally, notification will be available on the Closings & Delays web page and the School Schedule Hotline (434-296-5886). Staff also may elect to enroll in our Electronic School Notification System (ESNS) to receive inclement weather notifications and other important messages. Continue reading

Again, this year, Albemarle County is hosting Albemarle Against Hunger, a food drive for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Each year, school participation is a vital factor in the success of our food drive! If you would like your school to participate, please communicate with your principal. Summer Compressed Work Week: ACPS Procedure Brief

School and central office staff may institute a compressed work week for the dates ranging from June 20 through July 22, 2016. A compressed work week gives us the benefit of an extra day off by allowing employees to work the usual number of hours in fewer days per week. Our work week is defined as a 40-hour work week. We propose that, during the work weeks in the range here defined, employees working during the summer may work four 10-hour days each week and have a three-day weekend. Continue reading

NEA Learning & Leadership Grants: Applications Accepted Anytime
The National Education Association (NEA) Foundation is inviting applications for its Learning and Leadership Grants program. The program provides support to public school teachers, counselors, and education support professionals* toward participation in high-quality professional development experiences. The grant amount is $2,000 for individuals, and applicants must be current NEA members. Applications may be submitted anytime and are reviewed three times per year: February 1, June 1, and October 15. Continue reading
We Notice Nominations Now Open – Recognize An Employee by March 31
The Albemarle County Student Council is excited to announce the start of the annual
We Notice Program. This is an opportunity to recognize a teacher or staff member whose work you would like to celebrate. This recognition can be given to any staff member who works in our schools, such as teachers, office staff, building service team members, teaching assistants, cafeteria workers, school nurses, and bus drivers. Please complete the nomination form, including a message that will be shared with the staff member, by March 31.
March 1 Is Now a Green Work Day
At the request of the Albemarle County Electoral Board, our School Board voted last evening to close all schools on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, in response to the large number of voters who are expected to participate in the dual presidential primary election that day. March 1 now will be a Green Work Day for teachers and other eligible employees. Read our news release »
On Tuesday, March 1, eligible staff will commute via internet and telephone. Buildings will be in “weekend mode,” with reduced use of heating and air conditioning, fuel, and electricity. Students will not attend school.
