If you are seeking a course or courses for recertification, an initial endorsement or license, are on a provisional, or desire an additional area of endorsement such as Reading or Gifted Education, this session will provide information about MBU’s School of Education offerings. Back to School Bash on Aug. 10 – Volunteers Needed!

Each year, Albemarle County Public Schools and Charlottesville City Schools join forces with several community organizations to offer free school supplies and backpacks to families in need. This year’s Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ting Pavilion in Downtown Charlottesville.

CATEC 50th Anniversary Save the Date

CATEC will be celebrating its 50th anniversary as an important educational option for the Charlottesville community. Opening its doors in 1973, CATEC has provided real-world educational opportunities to thousands of Charlottesville area youth and adults.

Join us on Saturday, September 28, to celebrate this important milestone as we look forward to our school’s future in the community. Activities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil our new name and signage, as well as food, activities for families, tours of the facility, and raffles.

Public Education Foundation to Honor 2023-24 Teacher Innovation Grantees on Sept. 17

As part of its 20th anniversary campaign to fund innovation in public schools, the Public Education Foundation of Charlottesville-Albemarle (PEFCA) set out to help fund 35 public schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City with at least one program each, and even more if possible. Mark your calendar! PEFCA has announced that Teacher Innovation Grantees for the 2023-24 school year will be recognized at a special reception at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, in Charlottesville. Stay tuned for a formal invitation and more details later this summer!

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Announces Free Admission to Samurai Armor Exhibition for Teachers

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) in Richmond is offering preschool and K-12 teachers (public and private schools) and Commonwealth of Virginia employees free admission to the new exhibition, Samurai Armor from the Collection of Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller. The exhibition is available at VMFA through August 4, 2024. Commonwealth employees and educators should call 804-340-1405 to make their reservations and show their employee IDs or badges at the Visitor Services Desk in the museum when picking up their tickets. One free ticket is available per badge.

Albemarle County Concert Band Performing Free Spring Concert on May 14

You’re invited to attend a free concert of the Albemarle County Concert Band on Tuesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. Please join us at Albemarle High School for our spring concert!

The Albemarle County Concert Band was founded in 2016 and is comprised primarily of ACPS teachers representing various subject areas. The band rehearses on Tuesday evenings during the school year from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Albemarle High School.
