The Mockingbird Foundation offers competitive grants to schools and nonprofit organizations that effect improvements in music education for children. Grants range in size from $100 to $5,000, are made on a one-time basis, and are non-renewable and non-transferable. Albemarle County Public Schools’ Summer Fine Arts Academy provides students from our region an opportunity to spend an extended period of time studying a field of art of their choice under the direction of a highly qualified and engaging teacher. Summer Fine Arts Academy Now Accepting Registrations
ACPS is launching its first Fine Arts Academy this summer from July 21-25! Students currently in grades 6-11 (rising 7th – 12th graders for 2014-15) can choose to spend their week focused on art, creative writing, dance, drama, choir, or jazz band. The registration fee is $100 for all sessions that run from 9 a.m. to noon. Art students have the option of adding three hours to their class for an additional $50. 2014 ACTION! High School Director Competition
The Virginia Film Festival (VFF) encourages students to take their passion for filmmaking and create an entry for ACTION!, the VFF’s High School Director Competition. The 2014 ACTION! Competition is open to rising 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who are current residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia. One Grand Prize winner will receive a check for $1,000, and two runners-up will each receive a check for $500. Target funds in-school arts programs that enhance students’ classroom curricula by bringing the arts and cultural experiences to schools, such as in-school performances, artist-in-residency programs, and workshops in schools. Programs must take place between September 2014 and August 2015.
