With generous support from the business community, the Kids In Need Foundation is funding certified preK-12 educators to conduct innovative classroom projects. Kids In Need Teacher Grants range from $100 to $500, and special consideration is given to first-year teachers. This year, to support teachers and their efforts to bring special learning experiences to their students, ArtSkills is sending each teacher who applies for a Kids In Need Teacher Grant a package of bulletin board and poster supplies valued at $25! Applications must be received by September 30, 2015.

Chesapeake Bay Trust Mini Grants (up to $5,000) – Apply by August 7
The Chesapeake Bay Trust Mini Grant Program was established to provide accessible funds to schools, organizations and agencies to educate students about their local watersheds and how they can become environmental stewards and make a difference in watershed health. To accomplish this goal, the program supports meaningful outdoor learning experiences around a watershed issue investigation, including field trips, fieldwork, student-led action projects and schoolyard habitat projects, as well as building teacher capacity to implement environmental education, including professional development trainings and programs to advance environmental literacy in the Chesapeake Bay region. P. Buckley Moss Foundation Offering Teacher Art Grants up to $1,000 – Apply by September 30
The P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children’s Education has Teacher Art Grants available up to $1,000 to be awarded in 2015 to educators who need assistance to further their 2016-2017 program goals. Applications will be considered for projects that integrate the arts into educational programs serving children in pre-K through grade 12, including students who learn differently. The purpose for this grant is to aid and support teachers who wish to establish or maintain an effective learning tool using the visual arts within the school day. Application packets will be accepted July 1 – September 30, 2015, for the 2016-2017 school year.
JMRL’s Summer Reading Challenge, June 1 – August 31
The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library’s summer challenge is back! Beginning June 1, adults, teens and kids can participate in the same program, using the same process. Seeds for Education Grant – Apply by October 15
Wild Ones, a nonprofit environmental education and advocacy organization, is accepting applications from projects designed to enhance and develop an appreciation for nature using native plants. Through the Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education Fund, grants of up to $500 will be awarded for projects that emphasize the involvement of students and volunteers in all phases. Naiku Innovative Teacher Grant – Awards Granted Monthly
The Innovative Teacher Grant is for K-12 classroom teachers in public or private schools that seek to employ learner-centric assessment methodologies to engage and motivate students, differentiate instruction, and personalize learning for all students. The award combines professional development and next-gen classroom assessment software to provide teachers the guidance and tools necessary to successfully implement learner-centric assessment methodologies in the classroom. Approximately 10 new awards are granted each month, and applications are evaluated on a rolling basis.
Field Trip Grants from Target – Apply by September 30
Target funds programs that allow students and teachers to learn in all kinds of settings, including field trips! To help connect students’ classroom curricula to out-of-school experiences, Target awards Field Trip Grants valued up to $700 to K-12 schools nationwide. The grant application process opens at noon CST on August 1 and closes at noon CST on September 30. Field trips must take place between February and December 2016.

Yesterday evening’s 14th annual Golden Apple celebration honored 28 Albemarle County Public Schools teachers, including Gabrielle Schoppa of Burley Middle School, winner of the 21st Century Learning in the Classroom project grant. Mockingbird Music Education Grant – Apply by August 1
The Mockingbird Foundation offers competitive grants to schools and nonprofit organizations that effect improvements in music education for children. Grants range in size from $100 to $5,000, are made on a one-time basis, and are non-renewable and non-transferable.
