School Board Policies Now More Accessible Through the ACPS Website

Albemarle County School Board policies are available online through ElectronicSchoolBoard (ESB), the division’s paperless meeting system. While policies will continue to be available to stakeholders in PDF format through ESB, the division has recently migrated the content of our policies to our website for translation and accessibility purposes.

Through the School Board Policy page of the ACPS website, students, employees, and members of the public can now access our policies in English or any of six other languages currently featured through our website’s translation service, including Arabic, Korean, Nepali, Pashto, Spanish, and Swahili. This transition also ensures that our policies are accessible to the visually impaired or anyone who uses a screen reader to read website content. Continue reading

Albemarle County Public Schools has a number of policies that govern our operations in alignment with state code and our division vision, mission and values. Our policies must be reviewed once every five years, though we often review them more frequently due to changes in Virginia Code or the needs of our school system. In alignment with the school division’s Anti-Racism Policy, Superintendent Haas and the Albemarle County School Board asked all employees to complete the ACPS Anti-Racism Policy Orientation. The orientation takes approximately 45 minutes to complete and includes a verification form at the end that will confirm the completion of all activities. Health Policy Update on Tobacco Use

At their business meeting last week, the Albemarle County School Board approved Learning for All, the school division’s new five-year strategic plan. Among the updates to the division’s previous plan is the adoption of equity, excellence, family and community, and wellness as our core values.

In keeping with this commitment, the board also improved its policy on the use of tobacco and nicotine vapor products. Continue reading

School Board Will Vote This Evening on Changes to the Division’s Face Mask Policy

At midnight on June 30, Governor Ralph Northam’s declared state of emergency for the Commonwealth expired, relaxing several of the public health requirements associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Among those provisions was the wearing of face masks in public settings.

In anticipation of this action and following significant declines in the spread of the virus in our community, the Albemarle County School Board reviewed several updates to our mask wearing policy during their June 10 business meeting. Those updates and additional revisions will come up for a vote during the board meeting this evening, Thursday, July 8. Continue reading
