Would you like to have a meaningful impact on creating inclusive school environments for gender-expansive students? In August 2021, the Albemarle County School Board adopted the Policy on the Treatment of Transgender and Gender-Expansive Students. In order to plan for the implementation of the actions outlined in this policy, we are creating a diverse team of educators, administrators and employees, which will convene up to three times over the summer months. The Albemarle County School Board approved the official calendar for the 2022-23 school year at their meeting on January 13, 2022. The approved calendar is available to view and print in English and Spanish on our division-level Calendars page. Beginning today, employees are being asked to share their opinions on our calendar committee’s first draft of the 2022-23 school calendar: Click here to take our employee survey.
The state department of education requires school divisions to provide either 180 instructional days or 990 clock hours of instruction per year. The draft calendar for 2022-23 reduces the number of instructional days to 175; however, it still delivers more than 990 clock hours of instruction. The reduction in instructional days will provide teachers with more workdays, more professional development opportunities, and additional time to meet the individual learning needs of students. Yesterday evening, the school board approved changes to this year’s school calendar in response to the impact the pandemic has had on employee workload. Five full teacher workdays were added to the calendar, including two days previously on the calendar as half-days. As one of its objectives, Goal 3 of the school division’s new strategic plan, Learning for All, focuses on developing sustainable and modern facilities, infrastructure and equipment as a means to transform learning experiences and opportunities for students. Strategies affiliated with this goal include developing long-range plans to address overcrowding, partnering with local government on strategies to fund capital projects, and developing an equitable and sustainable process for guiding renovations and improvements.
In support of this goal, the Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee (LRPAC) requests your input on the priorities that should guide their selection of facility improvement projects. Continue reading

I am very happy to announce that Albemarle County Public Schools is launching a new strategic plan, entitled Learning for All, which will guide our school division over the next five years. This plan represents a collective, local vision that articulates our community’s hopes for all of our students. Every five to seven years, ACPS takes an opportunity to work with its students, employees, families and community to create a new strategic plan. The plan acts as a guide to how we define the direction that our school division will take over the next several years.
