Strong Men & Women in Virginia History Student Writing Contest – Deadline Extended to Nov. 25

SMW LogoHigh school students in Virginia are invited to honor outstanding African Americans by participating in Dominion Resources’ and the Library of Virginia’s Strong Men & Women in Virginia History student writing contest. Four winning essays will be chosen, one from each of the four regions in Virginia that Dominion serves. The deadline for entry has been extended to Tuesday, November 25, at midnight. Students are invited to submit a 400-word essay for a chance to win an Apple iPad Air and $1,000 for their school!

TEDx Charlottesville: Complimentary Scholastic Outreach Tickets Available!

TEDx Cville 2014The 2nd annual TEDx Charlottesville event will be held this Friday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at The Paramount Theater. Though the website says tickets are sold out, the TEDx Committee is offering COMPLIMENTARY scholastic outreach tickets to active students and educators in our community, available on a first-come, first-served basis! Applicants must be 13 or 14 years of age at the time of election or appointment (first day of session). Students serving as Pages/Messengers play an essential role during our legislative session! Helicopter 2050 Challenge

The contest started on June 1 and runs through September 30, 2014.
