Elementary Teachers: Thank you for attending our April 29 DPLC day. Our HMH Into Reading representatives aimed to familiarize you with the various components of HMH Into Reading and where to find them online, and how to access Teacher’s Corner, the professional learning piece of HMH Ed. We recognize that some sessions were more successful than others at achieving these goals, and we know that there is still a need for additional training so you can go into the summer with a clear understanding of how to plan for instruction.
We appreciate the feedback you have provided! We want to be sure that we meet your needs and supply you with the tools you need to be prepared to teach the program. Based on your input, we will prioritize learning in the following areas before the end of the year:
- Overview of how HMH Into Reading is structured (modules per year, weeks per module) and what physical materials we are getting;
- Flow of the literacy block;
- How to plan for instruction with the resources we are getting (instructional must do’s vs may do’s); and
- How to prepare and plan for the first module.
HMH is currently developing a short video and screencast that addresses all of the above. We will distribute these videos (K-2 and 3-5) as soon as we receive them!
Also, HMH will be returning on Monday, June 10, for two optional hands-on guided work sessions that will walk you through the process of planning for a week of instruction. Click a button below to register through the PLMS:
We are also planning optional work sessions where we can come together to walk through the steps of planning for the first module’s lessons. Please watch for a Division Compass announcement listing the dates, times and locations of these optional work sessions. Updated curriculum maps and pacing guides that align with the new SOLs will be developed this summer, and additional training will take place during pre-service week.
