Teachers: Here are a few suggestions and resources to assist you with backing up your Blackboard (Bb) classes and preparing for the transition of your current class content and materials to new classes next school year. Also, please review the Annual Blackboard Management Plan. This resource has been updated with important information, deadlines and actions you will need to consider over the next school year.
- Run the Export process and create a backup of any classes you may need again in the future. These exported packages can be brought back into a Bb class any time. This is not the recommended method for transitioning content and materials from current classes to classes you are teaching next school year. Rather, use the Export option to back up your Bb classes just in case you delete something by accident and need to restore it or if you are teaching a class now that you may not be teaching next school year, but likely will teach again in the future.
- Keep directions for how to run the Class Copy process handy, because this will be your best strategy for moving content and materials in your current Bb classes to next year’s Bb classes, when they become available. The ability to request Bb classes for next school year will become available in early August. (The Ed Tech team will send out a communication when the time comes.) You will have a reasonable window of time next school year when your classes from this school year are still available and your new classes are in Bb. Run the Class Copy process during this window to get all of your content and materials moved over.
- Please keep in mind that you should have a practice class available in Bb. Some educators use this as a holding tank for class content and materials and as a place to design new ways of setting up their classes.
Please reach out to your school’s assigned Learning Technology Integrator if you have any questions or would like support with any of the above recommendations.
