October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month! That makes now the perfect time to bring awareness to ways you can protect yourself online as threats to technology and confidential data become more commonplace. Please keep reading for best practices that ACPS Technology promotes:
Think before you click or give away your password!
Recognize and report email phishing attempts. If an email message or link looks a little suspicious, think before you click! It could be an attempt to get sensitive information from you or install malware on your device. Visit our Phishing Awareness and Education page to learn more!
Update your computer to help keep it protected!
Don’t delay! If you see a software update notification, act promptly. Be sure to save your work and reboot your computer to allow critical computer updates to finish!
Use strong passwords!
Use phrases for passwords. A passphrase can be a short sentence that has a few letters replaced with special characters and numbers. Passphrases are easy to remember and much more secure than a simple password. For example, “W1nter !s coming.” is an excellent passphrase. Be sure to include the spaces and the period!
