At its meeting on April 10, 2014, the Albemarle County School Board decided to extend the period of time for public comment on the proposed make-up days for the 2014-15 school calendar. This follows an earlier decision by the Board to consider building in several scheduled inclement weather make-up days in next year’s calendar. Currently, these make-up days would include, in order of priority, January 20; February 16; April 3, 6 and 7; and June 8 and 9. April 3 is the Friday before Spring Break, and April 6 and 7 are the first two days of the break. The addition of some or any of these days would reduce the possibility of having to extend the school year in 2015.
The Board is planning to take a vote on these proposed make-up days during their May 8 meeting. If you would like to comment on this issue, you have a number of options available to you:
- Attend the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Thursday, April 24, or Thursday, May 8, and sign up for public comment;
- Mail a note to the School Board at 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902; or
- Send an email to schoolboard@k12albemarle.org.
