Summer PD: Register for July Sessions by June 1

PD Opportunities Summer 2019

We have a range of professional development (PD) offerings and opportunities this summer. Similar to previous years, all teachers and administrators will participate in at least 6 hours of professional development over the course of the summer.

Summer PD sessions will run from July 8-18 at Jouett Middle School. Teachers who are unable to attend a session during the July days will attend sessions on August 16 at Henley Middle School. Teachers who have completed the PD requirement in July will not have to report to work on August 16.

Registration

Please register for specific sessions through the Summer Professional Development Opportunities page. Register for the July PD dates by June 1. The session schedule for the August 16 trade-off day will be open for registration by June 5 and will remain open through the summer.

Required Sessions

This summer, a central part of our summer professional development is a common experience that will be required for all teachers and administrators. In order to support our division’s strategic priorities around equity, access, and cultural competency, the Community Conversation: Working Together to Understand Ourselves and Our Students session is a required session for all teachers and administrators. This session will be offered multiple times from July 8-18 and on August 16 and will count for 3 of the 6 required hours of professional development.

In addition, secondary teachers and administrators (grades 6-12) will be required to attend the 3-hour Getting Started in Schoology session as part of our transition to a new learning management system. This will be an opportunity to learn the new system and be ready to get courses set before the start of the year.

Pre-K through Grade 5 teachers and administrators will have a variety of sessions to choose from during the July and August PD days to meet their second 3-hour requirement.

Workshops & Institutes

Beyond these required sessions, there will be several workshops and institutes held over the summer. Some will be based on school teams with invites coming from principals, and others will have open registration through the Summer Professional Development Opportunities page on the ACPS Professional Development website.
