Laptop Health Checkups Will Be Performed May 1 – June 12
Beginning in May, the Department of Technology will be performing health checkups on all staff laptops, division-wide, to ensure that everyone has a safe, reliable and consistent laptop experience. During this checkup, we will make any needed hardware repairs and install the new laptop image. We dn’t want anyne t have a laptp with a missing keybard letter.

ACPS is excited to announce that we have partnered with VMDO Architects, a local architectural firm specializing in K-12 education, to conduct a new Middle School Master Plan. This project includes a comprehensive study of our middle schools with the goal of developing a master plan to address, improve and resolve our capacity challenges and our renovation needs. Throughout the project, which is now underway and will continue through the end of the calendar year, there will be multiple opportunities for staff to engage with and inform our work.

Update from the High School Schedule and Workload Taskforce
High School Staff: As you may recall, in January, Dr. Haas and I visited each of our high schools and Center I to discuss the High School Schedule and Workload for both staff and students. During our visits, we shared a few things that we’ve learned: Through climate surveys, it’s clear that our comprehensive high school environments are not as conducive to learning as they could be. We also know that our high school students have not performed as well on SOL tests since our transition to an 8-period day back in 2010. And, perhaps most importantly, we recognize that rapid shifts in our student demographics demand greater focus on knowing each individual student. Continue reading
