Superintendent Haas visited Monticello High School on Friday, January 21, to serve as a substitute teacher, following similar visits to Albemarle and Western Albemarle high schools. The visit gave Dr. Haas the opportunity to meet with both students and staff and to share a message of gratitude for the extraordinary contributions all employees are making to families, students, and to one another in the current environment.

Important Announcement: All ACPS-sponsored COVID-19 testing sites will be closed on Monday, January 17, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Testing sites will resume their normal schedule on Tuesday, January 18.

We’ve Updated Our Quarantine Practices
Dear Employees,
Albemarle County Public Schools has updated quarantine guidance to share those of you who have not yet received a COVID-19 booster shot. Our full guidance is detailed within the Quarantine of Close Contacts section of our Mitigation Strategies web page.
If it’s been more than 6 months since your Pfizer/Moderna vaccine series (or more than 2 months since your Johnson & Johnson vaccine) and you have not received a COVID-19 booster shot, this change applies to you:
Effective Saturday, January 15, any employee identified as a close contact who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series more than 6 months ago (or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than 2 months ago) and has not received a COVID-19 booster shot is asked to quarantine (stay home) for at least 5 days from the last day of exposure. Update: Annual Leave Overages
We previously announced that we temporarily disabled the conversion of annual leave at or above 320 hours that normally occurs at the end of an employee’s birth month through December 31, 2021. Due to the difficulty 12-month employees may have had in taking time off this past year, we will be extending this suspension again through August 31, 2022. Continue reading

As weather begins to get colder and more inclement, and as daylight hours become more limited, we are adjusting the locations and schedules of our COVID-19 testing sites, effective Friday, October 29, 2021. New COVID-19 Leave Program for Employees as of Oct. 1
The Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) and Expanded FMLA (EFMLA) are set to expire today, September 30, 2021. With the expiration of EPSL and EFMLA, Albemarle County Public Schools is pleased to announce the creation of the COVID Leave Bank, equivalent to 10 days of leave for all regular employees, effective October 1, 2021 – January 31, 2022. COVID Testing: Location Change for Today Only!
Due to inclement weather and the school closure, we are relocating today’s COVID-19 testing site from Center I to Albemarle High School (AHS). Our goal is to provide a safe location for the testing team and for all participants.
Today’s testing site will operate from 12 to 6 p.m. in the AHS Athletic Lobby. The easiest access is from the bus parking lot behind the school. Continue reading
ACPS COVID-19 Testing Begins

In partnership with GENETWORx, Albemarle County Public Schools is making COVID-19 testing available to all employees. In compliance with the Albemarle County School Board’s resolution (August 12, 2021), all employees who indicated that they are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and those who declined to identify their vaccination status on the Staff Vaccination Status Form are required to test weekly. The first test for employees who are required to test must be completed by Friday, September 24.
