Polar Plunge Fest is coming to Charlottesville on Saturday, March 11! The festival will take place at The Shops at Stonefield from 12 to 4 p.m. Plunging starts at 2 p.m. This fundraiser supports Special Olympics Virginia, which provides year-round sports training, competition, leadership opportunities, and health services to more than 27,000 athletes of all abilities. On Saturday, March 18, the University of Virginia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) will offer its annual Engineering Open House—an opportunity for visitors to meet faculty and staff, interact with current students, take tours of state-of-the-art facilities, and attend interesting exhibits, presentations and demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public, and high school students are encouraged to register. Apply for a 2017-18 Shannon Grant by April 21!

Shannon-Foundation-BannerThe Edgar and Eleanor Shannon Foundation for Excellence in Public Education wants to help teachers and schools implement their best ideas. Two levels of proposals are invited for the 2017-18 school year:

  • Level 1 grants, not to exceed $750, will be awarded to classroom teachers for projects that support original and innovative student activities.
  • Level 2 grants, not to exceed $5,000, may be awarded to schools for creative projects that enhance student learning across age and grade levels.

Teacher Transfer Requests Due by March 15; Tenured Teachers May Apply Through June 15

Teacher Working With StudentTeacher Transfer Requests are now open to all tenured teachers desiring new assignments for the upcoming school year. Teachers who are on a Performance Improvement Plan or who will be on an active improvement plan for the upcoming school year are not eligible to apply for a transfer. All other non-tenured teachers are welcome to apply for jobs online as vacancies become available. Continue reading
