Policy Review & Revisions

Virginia Code requires all school board policies to be reviewed at least every five years and revised as needed. On February 8, four policies* were presented for action:

  • BDA, Regular School Board Meetings
  • BDD, Electronic Participation in Meetings from Remote Locations
  • BDDA, Notification of Meetings
  • BDDG, Minutes

And, two policies were presented for information:

  • DB, Annual Budget
  • DJF, Purchasing Procedures

*Policy BCF, “Advisory Committees to the School Board, was pulled from the consent agenda for further discussion at a future meeting.

Schematic Design: AHS 2nd Floor Connector Project

The board approved the AHS 2nd Floor Schematic Design for a second floor connector wing at AHS to improve circulation throughout the building, add classroom capacity, and provide improved teacher professional space.

ELA Adoption

The board approved the Jan. 11 recommendation of the English Language Arts (ELA) Adoption Committee for a new reading curriculum, HMH Into Reading Virginia, for grades K-5.

FY 24 Second Quarter Financial Report

Fiscal Services staff presented the FY 2023-2024 Second Quarter Financial Report, representing October – December 2023.

Human Resources Annual Report

Department of Instruction Bellwether Updates

Department of Instruction staff provided updates on the progress of four of the five Bellwether recommendations. Topics of focus included math, the instructional coaching model, formative assessments, and high-quality instructional materials/ELA adoption.
