The 2020 Golden Apple Awards, sponsored by Better Living Building Supply and Cabinetry, were presented through a virtual ceremony yesterday, May 21. The awards honored 44 teachers from public and private schools in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City for excellence in teaching and active community involvement. Congratulations to all of the recipients!

Apply for a Shannon Foundation Grant by April 17
The Shannon Foundation wants to help teachers and schools implement their best ideas for achieving excellence in the classroom. The Foundation offers Level 1 grants up to $750 to classroom teachers, individually or in teams, for projects that support original and innovative student activities. Level 2 grants up to $5,000 are offered to school teams, led by a coordinating teacher or building administrator, for creative projects that enhance student learning across age and grade levels. The Bama Works Fund, a grant created by the Dave Matthews Band to support community initiatives in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area, is currently accepting applications. There are two deadlines: February 1 (decision in mid-June) and August 1 (decision in mid-December). The award can be up to $10,000, which could help make your educational ideas a reality!
