2nd Annual WinterSongs Benefit Concert – February 27

WinterSongs BannerSave the date! The 2nd annual WinterSongs Benefit Concert is February 27 at 5 p.m. in the Monticello High School Auditorium.

WinterSongs is a collaborative event featuring almost 200 young women vocalists, ages 11 to 24, from six area schools (Albemarle, Monticello and Charlottesville high schools; Burley and Henley middle schools; and the University of Virginia). The event was created by local music teachers to provide a day of sharing, healing, support, empowerment, and music in the face of violence against women. Continue reading

15th Annual Lighting of the Lawn – Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.

Lighting of the LawnLighting of the Lawn is an annual event that aims to bring together University of Virginia students and faculty and the community of Charlottesville at the end of the fall semester. The event, which fosters a sense of camaraderie, looks back on the past year at the University. Charlottesville and U.Va. groups perform, the class poem is read, and various student groups, University departments, and schools host receptions in the Lawn rooms and Pavilions. The event culminates with the actual Lighting of the Lawn, ushering in the holiday season. Check out the Facebook Event Page.

Toy Drive 2015 – Donate by Dec. 3

Albemarle County Toy DriveThis week kicks off the start of the 2015 Albemarle County Toy Drive to benefit Toy Lift Charities. Last year, Toy Lift gifted 3,750 children ages newborn through 8th grade with toys, books, and other needed items. The year, the number of children served is expected to grow.

Last year, Albemarle County staff provided 216 toys, 8 books, and $364 to help children in Albemarle and surrounding counties who benefit from Toy Lift Charities. Please consider making a donation of a new, unwrapped toy or book, or a monetary contribution by Thursday, December 3. Continue reading
