Virginia Tech will hold their fourth annual GenCyber Beginner Camp for Secondary School Teachers on June 17-21, 2018. GenCyber camp will train secondary school teachers in the principles of good cybersecurity practices and the science behind those practices so that they may both teach their students effective practices as well as motivate these students to study more cybersecurity in more detail as they move into their chosen disciplines in colleges and universities. Attention All Albemarle County Employees: You’re Invited to Join the Concert Band
Jean Flaherty is entering her seventh year teaching music in Albemarle County, and last year, she started a concert band for Albemarle County school and local government employees. The band rehearses during the school year on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Burley Middle School (901 Rose Hill Drive, Charlottesville). Rehearsals this year begin Tuesday, August 29!
The band is open to people of all ability levels and performance experiences who are interested in making music together. Continue reading
Free Emergency Preparedness Training – 7/25, 8/2 or 9/7
The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle County Office of Emergency Management is offering FREE Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training this summer and fall. Interested community members are invited to register for one of three Level 1 CERT courses: Tuesday, July 25, in the Albemarle County Office Building on McIntire; Wednesday, August 2, at the Crozet Library; or Thursday, September 7, in the Albemarle County Office Building on 5th Street. All classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. The Level 1 training orients citizens on regional hazards, personal preparedness, and elements of fire safety and medical operations. Free National Weather Service SKYWARN Class on April 17

The Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Office of Emergency Management is hosting a National Weather Service (NWS) SKYWARN class on Monday, April 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This is a free class taught by the NWS that is designed to educate the public on weather threats in this area, as well as strengthen the ties between the NWS and the local community. Upon completion of the course, participants will be registered in the NWS spotter program. The more spotters the NWS has out there, the faster vital information gets to the NWS forecasters who make the decisions to issue lifesaving weather warnings. Register by April 13 »
