Attendees will be provided a comprehensive overview of the United States service academies and their admission process. In addition, students will be able to meet with officials from all five service academies as well as representatives from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB), ROTC programs, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Military Institute. U.S. Department of Education Announces Guidance on Bullying of Students With Disabilities
As part of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month, the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has issued guidance to schools reminding them that bullying is wrong and must not be tolerated—including against America’s 6.5 million students with disabilities. If a student with a disability is being bullied, federal law requires schools to take immediate and appropriate action to investigate the issue and, as necessary, take steps to stop the bullying and prevent it from recurring. Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk This Saturday, October 18!
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.3 minutes, claiming more than 39,500 lives each year. The Out of the Darkness Community Walks are the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) signature fundraising campaign, bringing together family, friends, colleagues and supporters at 3-5 mile walks in hundreds of communities across the country. Join the first local Out of the Darkness Community Walk this Saturday, October 18, at East End, Green Springs (near Zion Crossroads in Louisa County).
