Making Connections 2022

Our annual Making Connections professional learning event will be held Monday, November 7. Given the wide range of innovative practices and effective strategies implemented by educators and staff in Albemarle County, our programming this year will be a combination of workshops facilitated by visiting educators as well as ACPS teachers and administrators.

We are excited to expand this year’s Making Connections conference by including opportunities for support staff to participate in professional learning! We will host professional learning sessions for instructional staff at Monticello High School, while professional learning opportunities for support staff will be offered at Journey Middle School. Professional Development Reimbursement Program Update

ACPS is excited to announce that both teachers and classified employees are now eligible for reimbursement for participating in professional development! Professional Development Reimbursement Program (PDRP) funds are available to cover costs of conferences and credit-bearing coursework. Your equity specialists for the year are Shay Carter-Shifflett, Steven Turner, Megan Washburn, and Leslie Wills-Taylor. Ayanna Mitchell is the new Director of Equity Education, working closely with Dr. Eric Irizarry, the new Director of Equity, Family, School and Community Relations. AVID Summer PD Opportunities

Summer AVID professional development (PD) opportunities are now available in the Professional Learning Management System (PLMS). This summer, all AVID PD opportunities will be offered through Zoom. Teachers who complete six courses will receive a certificate of completion for AVID PD. AVID’s professional learning is built around high-quality Communities of Practice designed to meet the diverse needs of educators. These courses are targeted toward secondary educators (6-12) and provide an understanding of how to create a thriving learning culture, raise the level of commitment to student success, and engage and inspire students with WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) strategies. Summer Professional Learning for ST Math

This summer, we will offer a professional learning experience for elementary teachers focused on ST Math. The course will be facilitated through Schoology and will include three learning experiences that dive into the philosophy and context of ST Math, ST Math Chats for each grade level, and the pathway students follow through the learning objectives.

Teachers can sign up for the course through the Professional Learning Management System (PLMS). We will accept the first 100 teachers who register. Continue reading

Did You Work With an Instructional Coach This Year?

Teachers: If you worked with an instructional coach this year and your time together exceeded 5 hours, you have earned professional development (PD) points! Instructional coaches were asked to submit the number of hours that they worked with teacher partners this school year, and these hours will be posted on each individual teacher’s PD transcript by June 10, 2022. James Madison University (JMU) will host another informational meeting for its Educational Leadership programs, including its master’s and certificate options, on Monday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. JMU is planning to start a new cohort program this August. Classes will be held locally and meet weekly, and APCS teachers are eligible for discounted tuition. View the program brochure »

Your points will be populated in the Professional Learning Management System based on your form entries.
