Spring VKRP Assessment Info for Pre-K & Kindergarten Teachers

VKRP logo

Attention Pre-K & Kindergarten Teachers: The Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) spring testing window is April 15 – May 10. We know you will have Virginia Language & Literacy Screener (VALLS) testing in April as well. We are providing the following information for your planning purposes.

All preschool and kindergarten teachers are required to administer the following assessments and enter the data prior to May 10, 2024:

  • Early Math Assessment System (EMAS)
  • Child Behavior Rating Scale (CBRS)

You can access both assessments and training through the Virginia Literacy Partnerships site at va.pals.virginia.edu. After you log in, select the VKRP tab in the blue bar.

Information from the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program:

  • The VKRP Online Training Modules are designed to be quick overviews of the multiple facets of VKRP. Although many educators have completed these training modules in the past, we highly recommend that you review each module prior to delivering the assessments. In addition, most of the modules have been updated over the last few years, so reviewing these will ensure you receive the most up-to-date information.
  • VKRP Spring EMAS Revisions (mathematics): The Spring EMAS for pre-K 3-year-olds will be the same as last spring. There will be revisions to the pre-K 4-year-old and kindergarten versions of the Spring EMAS. Teachers will continue using the same kit from last year with additional materials added. The updated materials and directions will be sent to schools via the Pony prior to testing. More details are available here for pre-K 4 and here for kindergarten.
