Classified Staff Performance Competencies Review

Matthew Haas, Ed.D.Dear Classified and Support Staff,

A few years ago, we updated our Teacher Performance Appraisal (TPA), and more recently, we revised our Administrator Performance Appraisal (APA). As a part of our continuous improvement work, we are now focusing on our performance competency and appraisal model for classified staff.

Our Human Resources Department, with the help of a working group made up of classified employees from the school division and local government, is taking a fresh look at the competencies we use to recruit, hire, evaluate and develop classified employees. This review does not affect our instructional staff.

The current competencies we use for classified employees were put in place more than 12 years ago. Since then, both the school division and local government have updated our vision, mission, and value statements. It makes sense that we also review the classified employee competencies we use to ensure that they align with the revised statements.

To help with this process, we have asked the following work group from both divisions to gather input from employees and use your feedback to develop the new competencies:

  • Kelvin Reid, Extended Day Enrichment Program
  • Matt Titone, Building Services
  • Lynne Summers, Transportation
  • Charlie Price, Operations and Support Planning
  • Greg Domecq, Western Albemarle High School
  • Miller Stoddard, Police
  • Kelli Craddock, Finance
  • Megan Yaniglos, Community Development
  • Kathy Richard, Emergency Communications Center
  • John Freeman, Social Services
  • Louise Wyatt, County Executive Office
  • Elizabeth-Latta Brother, Human Resources
  • Lorna Gerome, Human Resources

Over the next few weeks, you’ll be receiving information about how you can participate in this important process. These opportunities will include departmental meetings, focus group sessions, an online survey or email requests for input.

I hope you will make it a point to offer your views. The competencies we establish as the result of this review process will play a major role in shaping the future success of our school division.

Sincerely,

Matt
