Revision in License Renewal Requirements

2015 General AssemblyThe 2015 General Assembly passed House Bill 1320 that amended requirements for license renewal as follows:

Every person seeking renewal of a license shall complete all renewal requirements, including professional development in a manner prescribed by the Board, except that no person seeking renewal of a license shall be required to satisfy any such requirement by completing coursework and earning credit at an institution of higher education. ACPS is hosting the Virginia Technology Education and Engineering Association (VTEEA) 2015 Summer Conference, “Making Engineering Everything,” July 29-31. This event connects educators, administrators, artists, professionals, and more through a hands-on experience into making, engineering, electronics, programming, and research!

Chesapeake Bay Trust Mini Grants (up to $5,000) – Apply by August 7

Chesapeake Bay Trust LogoThe Chesapeake Bay Trust Mini Grant Program was established to provide accessible funds to schools, organizations and agencies to educate students about their local watersheds and how they can become environmental stewards and make a difference in watershed health. To accomplish this goal, the program supports meaningful outdoor learning experiences around a watershed issue investigation, including field trips, fieldwork, student-led action projects and schoolyard habitat projects, as well as building teacher capacity to implement environmental education, including professional development trainings and programs to advance environmental literacy in the Chesapeake Bay region. The deadline is August 7 at 5 p.m. Get the scoop»

Number and Number Sense for Elementary School Teachers, July 27-31

2015-16 Opportunities CatalogWe are getting ready for summer PD to begin on July 7! We’ve added a NEW class that connects to our PD focus point on mathematical thinking (although it is not a DLI class that will trade for August 10). Number and Number Sense for Elementary School Teachers will run July 27-31 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Currently, there are 12 spaces available. Participants will receive at least 30 recertification points upon completion of the class.

Be a Presenter at VASCD’s 2015 Annual Conference – Submit a Proposal by June 26

VASCD 2015 Conference LogoThe Virginia Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (VASCD) invites you to propose a presentation that relates to the theme of “Deeper Learning” or its components: Mastery of Core Academic Content, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Collaboration, Effective Communication, Self-directed Learning, and Academic Mindset. Proposals may relate primarily to student learning or professional learning. The proposal form must be submitted online by June 26.
