Guided Tour: History of African-Americans at UVA – Sept. 8

Learn about the History of African-Americans at UVA on a guided tour with University Guide Service. The tour will cover the University’s complicated racial legacies of slavery and discrimination. Topics include slavery, integration, and a discussion of the modern racial climate at UVA. The tour group will meet at the Lawn (South) side steps of the Rotunda. Please register by 5 p.m. on Friday, September 7.

Back-to-School Tax HolidayVirginia’s annual three-day sales tax holiday starts this Friday, August 3, at 12:01 a.m. and ends the following Sunday, August 5, at 11:59 p.m. During the sales tax holiday, shoppers can buy qualifying school supplies ($20 or less per item) and clothing and footwear ($100 or less per item) without paying sales tax. You’re invited! On Thursday, June 28, ACPS is pleased to announce that Dr. Chris Emdin will be at Monticello High School for a morning presentation. Chris is an Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. His bio describes him as “a social critic, public intellectual and science advocate whose commentary on issues of race, culture, inequality and education have appeared in dozens of influential periodicals including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.” Continue reading
