Albemarle Beaches Will Open for Memorial Day Weekend

Walnut CreekLocal residents can rediscover affordable family fun at Albemarle County’s three swimming beaches this summer. On Saturday, May 27, swimming beaches at Chris Greene, Walnut Creek, and Mint Springs open for the three-day holiday weekend. Beaches are open daily from Memorial Day weekend thru Labor Day weekend, except when Albemarle County schools are in session. This year, swimming will be available daily beginning on Saturday, June 10. More information »

Albemarle County Concert Band: Free Concert on May 2

You’re invited! On Tuesday, May 2, the Albemarle County Concert Band will perform their first concert. This FREE event will take place at Western Albemarle High School at 7 p.m.

The Albemarle County Concert Band was founded at the beginning of this school year and is comprised primarily of classroom teachers of various subject areas, music teachers, and administrators from Albemarle County Public Schools, with some guests from surrounding areas. The band rehearses on Tuesday evenings during the school year from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Burley Middle School.

Household Hazardous Waste will be collected at the Ivy Materials Utilization Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29. This free service is available to residents of Albemarle County, Charlottesville, and Scottsville, as well as Nelson County residents who obtain a voucher from Nelson County government.
