Celebrate Computer Science Week this December 5-11 by participating in Hour of Code! Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify “code” to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with one-hour coding activities, but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. Public Invited to Visit Rotunda Planetarium on Nov. 25 & 26

The Rotunda Planetarium at the University of Virginia will be open to the public, free of charge, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26. The Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer has extended a special invitation to all ACPS staff and their families to come view the night sky Thomas Jefferson envisioned for the Rotunda’s Dome Room and enjoy a hot beverage and holiday treat. CATEC Culinary Arts has extended the deadline to order desserts for their Thanksgiving fundraiser to Friday, November 18. We know this is a busy time of year, so let our culinary students take care of one of the items on your Thanksgiving table! We are selling four dessert options this year: chocolate pecan pie, pumpkin pie, Dutch apple pie, and pumpkin bread. Your orders support our culinary arts program, and for that, we are very thankful! Tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, November 2, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will begin their 1:00 meeting by honoring all veterans employed by Albemarle County Public Schools and Local Government with a Resolution of Appreciation. All employees who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces are invited to attend.

Making Connections Website Is Live & Registration Is Open!

Making Connections 2022

On Monday, November 7, we will host our annual Making Connections professional learning conference. Sessions for teachers, school counselors, safety coaches, mental health coaches, and administrators will be held at Monticello High School. Coffee will be available in the cafeteria beginning at 8 a.m. and lunch will be provided. The first session will start at 8:30 a.m., and the final session will end at 3:30 p.m. Sessions for teaching assistants, office associates, and other support staff will be held at Albemarle High School. (This is a change!) Breakfast will be provided in the cafeteria at 8 a.m., and sessions will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Note: Full-time staff should check with their supervisor regarding plans for the remainder of the day.)
