Making Connections 2022

Our annual Making Connections professional learning event will be held Monday, November 7. Given the wide range of innovative practices and effective strategies implemented by educators and staff in Albemarle County, our programming this year will be a combination of workshops facilitated by visiting educators as well as ACPS teachers and administrators.

We are excited to expand this year’s Making Connections conference by including opportunities for support staff to participate in professional learning! We will host professional learning sessions for instructional staff at Monticello High School, while professional learning opportunities for support staff will be offered at Journey Middle School. We will be gathering together as one team to celebrate the hard work each of you engage in every day to ensure that students are provided the best we have to offer. Each one of you impacts the work we do with our students, families, and members of the community. Our convocation is an opportunity to recognize all of the professionals who create an environment in which our students are seen, heard and known by those who support them!

Backpack Drive Underway; Collection Dates: Aug. 1-7

Back to School Bash 2022

The Back to School Bash Committee is soliciting donations of solid color backpacks for elementary students and brightly decorated backpacks for preschool students. Donated backpacks will be distributed to students from Charlottesville, Albemarle, and surrounding counties on August 20 at the Back to School Bash at Ting Pavilion in Downtown Charlottesville.

Backpacks can be dropped off from August 1-7 at either the Charlottesville City Schools Division Annex or Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church. For more information about donating or purchasing a backpack online for delivery to the committee, please see the event flyer: Continue reading

Volunteers Needed for Back to School Bash

Back to School Bash 2022

Each year, Charlottesville City Schools and Albemarle County Public Schools join forces with several community organizations to offer free school supplies and backpacks to families in need. This year’s Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, August 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the Ting Pavilion in Downtown Charlottesville. In addition to free school supplies, the event will feature music, games, local vendors, and more!

Tom Sox Will Now Host Educator Appreciation Day on July 24

Due to inclement weather on July 14, Charlottesville’s collegiate summer baseball team, the Tom Sox, has rescheduled their Educator Appreciation Day for Sunday, July 24, and they’ve extended a special invitation to all Albemarle County Public Schools employees. They’ll face the Waynesboro Generals at Charlottesville High School at 1 p.m. Free admission and parking! Come join the fun!
