Looking for LETRS Facilitators!

Attention Elementary & Middle School Teachers: ACPS is looking at the possibility of providing district-wide LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading Spelling) training for the 2024-25 school year. You can learn more about LETRS training by visiting the Lexia LETRS Professional Learning website. Our interest in providing LETRS training is based on the following:

  • Both elementary ELA curriculum programs selected for review are LETRS-aligned, allowing us to provide a systematic and integrated approach to evidence-based literacy instruction.
  • LETRS training is sustained over time and job-embedded professional learning that tends to allow teachers to transfer learning into classroom practice.
  • LETRS training is already state approved to meet the Virginia Literacy Act (VLA) professional learning requirements; this will allow us more time for thoughtful planning.

For this to happen, we will need a cohort of approximately 30 teachers, instructional coaches, and district leaders to become LETRS Vol. 1 trained this spring. Please note:

  • Spring LETRS training would be an accelerated, intensive course incorporating approximately 48-60 hours of professional learning over the course of 6 months, rather than 9 months.
  • Important! Following spring training, the cohort would be expected to participate in LETRS facilitator training in the summer of 2024 to lead district-wide implementation.

Interested? If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please complete our 2024 LETRS Interest Form by the end of the school day this Friday, December 15. Completing the interest form does not mean that you will be selected to participate, nor does it commit you to participating in the program if you are selected.

If you have previously participated in LETRS training and you are interested in being a facilitator, you may also complete the 2024 LETRS Interest Form by Friday, December 15. (The form provides a space to indicate your experience with LETRS.)

Once we identify those who are interested, we will have an informational meeting in early January to provide more details about the training program and expectations for participants. Please direct any questions to Megan Wood.
