Summer 2015 marks the 4th Annual Albemarle Leadership Academy! Applications are now being accepted to this exciting (and free!) summer opportunity for students who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2015-16 school year. Students will explore the concept of leadership and develop a range of skills that they will apply to areas of their own interest.

Albemarle County Public Schools maintains over 600 policies. Our policies are locally developed through our work with the Virginia School Boards Association and they are tied to Virginia Code. Several are locally developed. Our policies translate our core values of excellence, young people, community and respect into the backbone of our daily operations and aspirations for students. Pam Moran Named Region 5 Superintendent of the Year!
Our very own superintendent, Dr. Pam Moran, has been named the Region 5 School Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS). Region 5 encompasses 20 school divisions in Central Virginia. Dr. Moran was selected by a VASS committee of her peers, and she will formally be recognized at the VASS annual conference in May. Teacher Transfer Requests
Teacher Transfer Requests are now open to all teachers desiring new assignments for the upcoming school year. Tenured and non-tenured teachers may apply for any positions, regardless of length of service with ACPS, through the job posting website. The previous form is no longer being used. Continue reading
Chief Information Officer, Vince Scheivert, Receives National Technology Leadership Award
Congratulations to our Chief Information Officer (CIO), Vince Scheivert, on being named the 2015 recipient of the Withrow Award by the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN), a national professional association for school system technology leaders. VSCA 2015 Student Scholarship – Submissions Due by Apr. 17
The Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) 2015 Student Scholarship was established in 2015 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to Virginia students pursuing post-secondary opportunities. One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded each year funds are available. Participants should be high school seniors planning to pursue a post-secondary opportunity, with a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Applications must be submitted by April 17, 2015; final selection will be made by May 22.
Extreme Journey Summer Camp 2015: Registration Now Open!
Registration is now open for the annual Extreme Journey Summer Camp. Offered in partnership between Albemarle County Public Schools and The Journey Through Hallowed Ground, this program provides rising 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the opportunity to hike, bike, tube and canoe their way through several sites along our National Heritage Area, running from Gettysburg to Monticello. Service Academy Day 2015 Will Be Held March 28
Senator Mark Warner invites high school and middle school students, their parents, and guidance counselors to Academy Day 2015 on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Attendees will be provided a comprehensive overview of the United States service academies and their admission process. In addition, students will be able to meet with officials from all five service academies as well as representatives from the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DoDMERB), ROTC programs, Virginia Tech, and the Virginia Military Institute. 30 Grants in 30 Days Is Live – Apply by April 3!
Keep Virginia Beautiful is accepting applications for their 2015 30 Grants in 30 Days program through April 3! The program is designed to help communities, schools, parks, neighborhoods, and civic groups battle Virginia’s environmental issues on the front lines. These grants are categorized in 3 areas: Litter Prevention, Recycling, and Beautification & Community Greening. Thirty grants of $500 to $1,000 will be awarded to 30 geographically diverse areas around the Commonwealth. These grants will be awarded for 30 consecutive days starting on Earth Day, April 22, 2015.
