Super FAFSA WeekSuper FAFSA Week (formerly known as Super Saturday) is a service project offered by the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) where individuals seeking funding for postsecondary education receive FREE, professional assistance in completing the federal financial aid form, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the form used by colleges, universities, and career-technical schools across the country to determine eligibility for federal and many state financial aid programs.

Last evening, the School Board signaled their support for sending my funding request to the Board of Supervisors with no change. The School Board will take a formal vote at their February 13 meeting. They also will include in their resolution, a list of potential expenditure cuts that would be considered if the request is not fully funded once we receive final state and local government revenue numbers. VRS Hybrid Retirement Plan: Opt-In Window Open Through April 30

Info SessionThe Opt-In period for the new VRS Hybrid plan is open now through April 30. All current Plan 1 and Plan 2 members, with the exception of those currently in hazardous duty positions, are eligible to opt in to the new plan during this one-time enrollment window. Information sessions are scheduled at various locations. HR staff members will present information about the new VRS Hybrid Plan and answer any questions you may have.  Continue reading

Celebrate Digital Learning Day this Feb. 5!

Digital Learning Day LogoThis Wednesday, February 5, is Digital Learning Day! Many of our schools have activities planned to help spotlight the ways our excellent educators use contemporary learning technologies as cognitive, creating and connecting tools. In fact, interviews with educators and footage from Albemarle County Public Schools will be used as part of a video that will be featured at the Library of Congress this Wednesday.

Virginia License Renewal Information: Virginia History or State and Local Government

VDOE LogoAny individual licensed and endorsed to teach middle school civics or economics or high school government or history who is seeking renewal of such license is required to demonstrate knowledge of Virginia history or state and local government by completing a module or professional development course specifically related to Virginia history or state and local government that has a value of five professional development points. This requirement applies for purposes of the individual’s next or initial renewal occurring after July 1, 2014. Successful completion of the Virginia State and Local Civic Education Module will satisfy this renewal requirement.
