The ReinventED Community Convening aims to bring everyone together to connect, catalyze and create change. 2016 Regional College FairPlease help spread the word! The 2016 Regional College Fair will be held at Monticello High School on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Regional College Fair is an excellent opportunity for students of all grade levels to speak with admissions representatives from over 70 colleges and universities. Regardless of where students may be in the process, having access to so many colleges in one location is invaluable. It is important for underclassmen to gain exposure to colleges early in their high school career to assist them in developing their academic and career plans. Watch the video promo »

“If I Were Mayor” Essay Contest – Submissions Due Dec. 1

If I Were MayorAttention 7th grade English and Social Studies teachers: Each fall, to help introduce students to local governments and encourage them to envision how their leadership could impact their community, the Virginia Municipal League (VML) invites all Virginia 7th graders to participate in its “If I Were Mayor” essay contest. The essays describe what the student would do as mayor to make their cities and towns great places to live. Essays must be received at the VML office by Thursday, December 1, 2016. Continue reading

2016 Bird Conservation Poster Contest – Deadline: Nov. 19

2016 Bird Conservation Poster ContestThe Monticello Bird Club of Charlottesville has joined with the Blue Ridge Young Birders Club to sponsor the second annual bird conservation poster contest. Open to public, private, and home schooled students in grades K-8, this local competition challenges students to create a poster that illustrates a key conservation threat to birds and suggests a solution to the issue. Last year, Western Albemarle High School joined the fun. The French teacher had the students write Tweets in French on paper, while another group of students in the library typed them into Twitter. “One of our students, who was in the school production of The Diary of Anne Frank, was thrilled to get an answer from the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam,” recalls Melissa Techman, school librarian at Western Albemarle.

Graduating Seniors & Google

Graduating SeniorAs we near the end of the school year, graduating seniors, as well as other students and staff exiting the school division, who wish to archive or move items from their @k12albemarle.org Google account should follow these directions. Accounts will be available until the end of the school year. Staff needing assistance can reach out to their school’s Learning Technology Integrator or submit a service desk ticket. Students needing assistance can contact their school’s student helpdesk or work with one of their teachers.
