Attention All Albemarle County Employees: You’re Invited to Join the Concert Band

G-major, e-minorJean Flaherty is entering her seventh year teaching music in Albemarle County, and last year, she started a concert band for Albemarle County school and local government employees. The band rehearses during the school year on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Burley Middle School (901 Rose Hill Drive, Charlottesville). Rehearsals this year begin Tuesday, August 29!

Free Emergency Preparedness Training – 7/25, 8/2 or 9/7

CERTThe Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle County Office of Emergency Management is offering FREE Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training this summer and fall. Interested community members are invited to register for one of three Level 1 CERT courses: Tuesday, July 25, in the Albemarle County Office Building on McIntire; Wednesday, August 2, at the Crozet Library; or Thursday, September 7, in the Albemarle County Office Building on 5th Street. All classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. The Level 1 training orients citizens on regional hazards, personal preparedness, and elements of fire safety and medical operations. Albemarle Beaches Will Open for Memorial Day Weekend

Walnut CreekLocal residents can rediscover affordable family fun at Albemarle County’s three swimming beaches this summer. On Saturday, May 27, swimming beaches at Chris Greene, Walnut Creek, and Mint Springs open for the three-day holiday weekend. Beaches are open daily from Memorial Day weekend thru Labor Day weekend, except when Albemarle County schools are in session. This year, swimming will be available daily beginning on Saturday, June 10. More information »

Board of Supervisors Adopts FY18 Budget

Albemarle County LogoOn Monday, May 15, 2017, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors conducted a public hearing on the Calendar Year 17 Tax Rate. Formal approval of the tax rate and adoption of the FY 18 budget followed that public hearing.

The adopted Fiscal Year 2018 combined capital and operating budget totals $397,897,173 and is balanced with a tax rate of $0.839 per $100 of assessed value. Continue reading

Immediately following the conclusion of those public hearings, it came to the County’s attention that there was a defect in the posted notice regarding the public hearing on the Calendar Year 17 Tax Rate.
