Crozet Trails Crew 7th Annual 5K Trail Race – October 8
On Saturday, October 8, 2016, the Crozet Trails Crew will hold their annual 5K Trail Race. You’re invited to join the fun! Registration ($20 online or $25 in person) includes race admission, a race t-shirt, and entrance into the Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival, which is held right after the race. There’s also a 400-meter Fun Run for kids up to 7 years old. Open the event flyer »
Race proceeds benefit the Crozet Trails Crew, a grassroots community organization whose mission is to connect Crozet and Western Albemarle with trails and greenways.

2016 Citizen Fire & Rescue Academy Begins September 22
Have you ever wondered why fire trucks respond to calls for a sick person, why they block the road for a vehicle crash, or why they take the big truck to the store? Are you interested in learning how fire rescue uses your tax dollars or what emergency responders do while they’re not responding to an incident? If your curiosity is piqued, you should consider enrolling in Albemarle County’s 2016 Citizen Fire & Rescue Academy.
This FREE, five-night class is conducted with senior volunteer and career fire rescue personnel and provides an in-depth overview of the system. Continue reading
Albemarle County Kicks off Bond Referendum Public Awareness Campaign: Three Community Forums in October
This November 8, the ballot in Albemarle County will include not just candidates for President of the United States and for Congress, but also a question on whether the county should issue $35 million in general obligation bonds to finance improvements at 25 of our 26 school facilities. Two Days Left to Donate Items for WV Flood Victims
The Jefferson Area Motor Squad is collecting donations for the victims of the recent devastating flooding in West Virginia. Drop-off locations have been established throughout the County to collect supplies. Items will be collected through Thursday, July 7, at which time members from the squad will deliver the aids to West Virginia to be distributed.

Albemarle County Beaches Will Open for Memorial Day Weekend
Local residents can rediscover affordable family fun at Albemarle County’s three swimming beaches this summer. On Saturday, May 28, swimming beaches at Chris Greene, Walnut Creek, and Mint Springs open for the three-day holiday weekend. Beaches are open daily from Memorial Day Weekend thru Labor Day Weekend, except when Albemarle County Schools are in session. This year, swimming will be available daily beginning on Wednesday, June 8.

Rt. 29/Rio Road Project: New Traffic Patterns Begin May 22
Construction on the Rio Road grade-separated intersection will shift into high gear at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, and motorists will see major traffic pattern changes that will affect travel through the project during the summer. Detours will be posted. This phase of work will be completed by September 2, 2016. Route 29 remains open during construction, so you can continue to support local businesses during the construction period. Continue reading
