Instructional Leader Book Study: Who Moved My Cheese? & Breakthrough Leadership

Book Study with Superintendent Haas

You’re invited! Join our Superintendent, Matthew Haas, in an 8-week virtual book study geared toward instructional leaders. The study group will meet virtually every two weeks beginning January 6, 2022, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

In ACPS, we strive for equity. In fact, equity is one of our four core values, and we support that value through a commitment to provide every student with the level of support necessary to thrive. Our group will read and study Breakthrough Leadership, by Blankstein and Newsome, and participants will expand their repertoire of strategies for meeting students where they are and providing them with the right support for success. At the same time, we know that making changes in practice to achieve equity can involve seemingly seismic paradigm shifts, and it often lands with instructional leaders to facilitate such shifts with a positive outlook on change. Participants will also study Who Moved My Cheese?, by Spencer Johnson, which offers a parable with guiding principles for positive change.

Our book study group will meet every two weeks to discuss takeaways from these two books, culminating with each participant describing a case story about making a change toward equity. Whether you are an aspiring leader, a leader of a small group, or a school- or division-level leader, you will enjoy these books and most certainly will find practical opportunities to apply your insights as well as those of peer participants.
