Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts: Classroom Residency Opportunity

Attention pre-K through first-grade teachers: Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts is once again offering an opportunity to participate in a 5-session classroom residency the week of November 27 – December 1. (There may be virtual options either that week or later in the school year.) Wolf Trap classroom residencies are creative partnerships between “Teaching Artists” (musicians, dancers, actors and puppeteers) and early childhood educators as they collaborate in using the performing arts to engage children, enrich their learning, and reinforce curriculum. Interested teachers: Please sign up by September 29.

How does it work?

A Wolf Trap Teaching Artist will visit or Zoom into your classroom and model five 30-minute arts-infused lessons (one per day) over the course of one week (or two, if necessary for virtual scheduling). Sessions are designed to model how the arts can be integrated into classroom instruction in developmentally appropriate ways. Teacher participants will learn alongside their students and earn five (5) hours of professional development recertification without having to leave their classroom or find substitutes.

Interested?

Interested pre-K, kindergarten, and first-grade teachers should sign up through the Wolf Trap Residency Interest Form soon, preferably by Friday, September 29. In the near future, Wolf Trap staff member Ashton Schaffer will reach out to you to determine the desired art form (music, movement, drama or puppetry), select an available Teaching Artist, and schedule a planning call. Prior to the sessions and at your convenience, your Teaching Artist will conduct a brief meeting with you by phone to plan instruction that supports your curriculum.
