Follow-up from ELA Presentation on March 5

School girl reading book in classroom at school

Dear Teachers, K-5:

Thank you for your attendance and engagement last Tuesday, March 5, as we listened to Dr. Kristin Conradi Smith’s presentation, Science of Reading: The Shift, Seven Myths, and Our Opportunity. As we embark on the exciting journey of implementing HMH Into Reading and embracing new English Language Arts (ELA) Standards of Learning, we are mindful of the pivotal role each of you plays in shaping the future of literacy education in Albemarle County. Dr. Conradi Smith’s session was a catalyst for fostering a shared understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction (EBLI). Our next opportunity to learn together will be on Thursday, April 11. We will be joined virtually by HMH consultants to help teachers (K-5 classroom teachers, EL, SPED, reading specialists/interventionists, TDRT, and Instructional Coaches) get access to the HMH online portal in preparation for our April 29 professional learning day. This virtual session will be hosted at 3 p.m. during the regularly scheduled Thursday afternoon faculty meeting. A Zoom link will be provided closer to the date.

The schedule below is a draft outline of the April 29 Professional Learning Day:

  • 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. | K-5 Classroom Teachers: Grade-Level Specific Introduction to HMH
  • 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. | K-5 Admin, EL, SPED, Instructional Coaches, Reading Specialists, and TDRT: Introduction to HMH
