What’s the BIG news?

September paychecks! While we always recommend that you review your pay stub monthly, September is a particularly important month when it comes to paychecks. Whether you’re  a school division employee getting your first check of the school year, or a government employee who works year-round, please carefully review your paystub for salary, VRS deductions (full-time employees), and for deductions for any voluntary benefits (health, dental, etc.) you may have. You can quickly find these deductions in the Employee Deductions section of your paystub. (Also, please remember that our dental premium holiday has ended, so you’ll see deductions for dental coverage this month if you are enrolled in that benefit!) Got questions? Get answers by contacting Payroll at 296-5837 or Human Resources at 296-5827.

What else is going on?

Sick Leave: The advent of the new VRS Hybrid retirement plan back in January (which has mandatory employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage) has created a situation where one group of employees has different—and in most cases, better—benefits than other employees have. We’ll be making recommendations to both Boards in the coming weeks as to how we can best address this situation.

Medical/Dental Plan: With the start of a new benefits plan year, comes the planning for the next benefits year! The Health Care Executive Committee is looking closely at our plans to ensure we continue to offer excellent health and dental plan options at affordable rates, while meeting our obligations in regard to Health Care Reform mandates and the maintenance of our plan reserves. Our recommendations will also go to the Boards in the coming weeks.

What do I need to do?

Please stay tuned for more information (to be shared next week) on these very important topics so that you are well informed about what will be discussed by the Boards in October.
